Senate Skim

September 7, 2016 | Senate Skim | 69th Session
Howdy, Ags!
On September 7th, 2016, the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Senate convened for the first meeting
of the 69th session (2016-2017 school year). Over the course of nearly four hours, 59 of
your elected representatives took turns proposing legislation, debating hot-topic issues,
and voicing the needs of the student body.
Following a period of open forum and the approval of the May 2, 2016 minutes, the
motion to reconsider the minutes of May 2, 2016 was denied, thereby upholding the
confirmation of Emma Douglas as SBP Wimberly’s Chief of Staff. Shortly afterward, the
Senate confirmed SBP Wimberly’s appointment of Landon Woods as Vice President of
Student Services and her appointment of Corbin Neumann, Eric Handley, and Michael
Formella as Associate Justices.
In accordance with the growing focus Senate is placing on serving students with
disabilities and improving dining options, the establishment of both the Disabilities
Services Sub-Committee and the Dining Sub-Committee was confirmed. Both new
subcommittees will focus on creating solutions to improve these specific services for
students. Additionally, the On the Wood Resolution passed by consent, stating that the
Texas A&M Senate is resolved to uphold the tradition of standing on the wood at Aggie
football games. The Standard of Respect Resolution passed as well, stating that the
Senate is committed to upholding a standard of respect for all participants throughout all
Senate proceedings in accordance with the Aggie Values. Several bills were sent to
committee and will be reviewed in the coming weeks.
As always, Student Senate strives to serve you by advocating for your interests while
upholding the Aggie Values of Leadership, Loyalty, Integrity, Excellence, Respect, and
Selfless Service. Please contact your Senator if you have any questions or suggestions
you would like to bring before the Senate.
